Our next auction is April 11-12, 2025
The Cowboy Artists of America was formed in 1965 “to authentically preserve and perpetuate the culture of Western life in fine art.” The group began when Joe Beeler, Charlie Dye, John Hampton and George Phippen gathered at the Oak Creek Tavern in Sedona to formulate a plan for the group. A few days later, the four met at Dye’s studio and were joined by Fred Harman and the five artists formalized the bylaws for the group and settled on the name Cowboy Artists of America. Nearly sixty years later, the group has had an undeniable effect on not just the genre of Western art, but American art as well and is represented in private and institutional collections across the country. Work by historic and contemporary members of the CA has always been a major focus of the Scottsdale Art Auction.
